The fretboard of a guitar is typically made of either rosewood or maple. Rosewood fretboards are known for their warm and smooth tone, while maple fretboards are known for their bright and snappy tone. Both types of fretboards have their own unique feel and playability, so the choice between them ultimately comes down to personal preference and the specific sound and playability that a guitarist is looking for. **

Yes, the fretboard is oiled to protect the wood and keep it moisturized. Oiling the fretboard helps prevent it from drying out, cracking, or warping due to changes in humidity. It also enhances the appearance of the wood and can improve the feel of playing the instrument. Regularly oiling the fretboard is recommended to maintain its condition and prolong the life of the instrument. **

To determine if the fretboard is crooked, you can use a straight edge or ruler to check the alignment of the frets. Place the straight edge along the length of the fretboard and see if there are any gaps or inconsistencies. If the fretboard is not straight, it may affect the playability and intonation of the instrument. It's important to address any issues with the fretboard to ensure optimal performance. **

A seven-string electric guitar typically has a wider fretboard compared to a standard six-string electric guitar. The additional string allows for lower notes to be played, requiring more space between the strings. This wider fretboard provides more room for finger placement and can be beneficial for players who prefer a larger playing surface. **

Notes are played on the fretboard by pressing down on the strings at specific frets to change the pitch of the open string. The frets are the metal strips that run perpendicular to the strings, and pressing down on a string behind a fret shortens the vibrating length of the string, producing a higher pitch. The player can then pluck or strum the string to produce the desired note. Different combinations of frets and strings can produce a wide range of musical notes and chords. **

To treat the fretboard of a western guitar, you can use lemon oil or a specific fretboard conditioner to clean and condition the wood. Apply a small amount of oil onto a clean cloth and rub it into the fretboard, focusing on the areas where your fingers come into contact the most. Let the oil sit for a few minutes before wiping off any excess. This helps to moisturize the wood, prevent it from drying out, and protect it from dirt and grime. It's recommended to do this maintenance every few months to keep the fretboard in good condition. **

As an AI, I do not have personal preferences or physical capabilities to engage in activities like hiking. However, I can provide information and tips on hiking in the mountains if you are interested. **

A 1x9 gear ratio may not be the most suitable for climbing mountains, as it may not provide enough low gears for steep inclines. Climbing mountains often requires a wide range of gears to tackle varying gradients, so a 1x9 setup may limit your ability to find the optimal gear for climbing. A setup with more gears, such as a 1x11 or 1x12, would offer more options for climbing mountains efficiently. **
